Humanitarian project
StomatologiaSOS
This is our project.
Humanitarian project born unexpectedly, one morning, out of our desire to help
Education and community support projects I have supported over the years, from presentations in schools, kindergartens and various companies, to medical volunteering in Nepal and equipping a dental surgery in Uganda.
But with a humanitarian project such as this one, we didn't dare to hit the road. To be honest, I don't think that initially we didn't even realize the scale it could have and the impact on the dental health of Romanians.
But now we understand that such a humanitarian project may be the largest of its kind in Romania.
We realized it from the large number of messages and requests we received following the announcement we posted on social networks, describing the project and seeking to identify those dental offices that need our help.
In short, what we aim to do is to donate new, modern equipment to disadvantaged state dental clinics, especially in rural areas, so that they can operate in more than decent conditions for treating patients.
We all know that the state of dental health among Romanians leaves much to be desired, our country being on the last places in terms of oral hygiene and visits to the dentist. Fear, financial difficulties, lack of education are factors that favor the precarious state of dental health with which the Romanians are facing.
If we add to all this the lack of state dental offices, properly equipped, offering quality dental services for patients, we understand why Romanians are in such a situation.
In rural areas people do not have access to dental services unless they travel long distances
Dental surgeries are generally located in cities, while in rural areas people do not have access to dental services unless they travel long distances to the nearest town where there is a specialized clinic.
Most of the time, people go to the dentist only in an emergency, when the pain is high, and the treatments, unfortunately, are radical, ending with the loss of the respective teeth (tooth extractions).
Humanitarian project StomatologiaSOS
can have multiple benefits for the population of Romania, because we want to extend it to as many areas of the country as possible, in order to facilitate Romanians' access to dental treatments as close as possible to the area where they live.
Benefits of StomatologiaSOS:
It donates essential equipment for the establishment or modernization of state dental surgeries in different parts of the country, especially in rural areas.
Equipment includes dental unit (dental chair), compressor, instrument sterilization unit;
It makes it easier for Romanians to access dental services in the area where they live, without having to travel long distances for treatment;
It facilitates Romanians' access to quality dental services in decent working conditions for both patients and dentists;
It is a project that can help the development of Romanian dentistry in rural areas.
The trend is for dentists to move to the country's big cities, especially those with dental schools, where they work mainly in private practices.
For this reason, in rural areas there are not enough health facilities specialized in dentistry. Setting up or modernizing local dental practices can attract dentists to provide quality services in optimal working conditions.
It is a project that supports the dental health of the Romanian population and can help to decrease the rate of dental diseases and increase the frequency of visits to the dentist by facilitating access to specialized medical services;
We plan to run in parallel dental health education projects targeting local people in the areas that will benefit from our donations (presentations, question and answer sessions, demonstrations, etc).
We aim to facilitate the exchange of experience between the dentists working in the beneficiary dental practices and those working in the Life Dental Spa clinics, in order to increase the quality of services offered in rural areas.
StomatologiaSOS is currently fully financially supported by the Life Dental Spa clinics, but we want to attract as many good people as possible, who want to support the project and donate dental equipment and/or dental instruments to the beneficiary dental offices.
If we join forces, we can help many more Romanians to benefit from dental services, even in disadvantaged areas, where toothbrushes are a rarity and toothpaste is the kitchen salt!
We invite other colleagues, dentists, who want to contribute to this project, by donating equipment and instruments, each according to their possibilities and availability.
The same, however, can be done by all good people, who understand that dental health is important and that Romanians really need dental services and education in this regard!
