Root canal treatment
A root canal treatment becomes necessary when tooth decay has advanced greatly and has affected the nerve of the tooth. Often, the pains that occur when the tooth nerve suffers are extremely acute and unbearable, and at a certain level, they no longer respond to any kind of anti-algesic medication. For this reason, an endodontic treatment intervention is required, with "nerve removal" (devitalization), cleaning of the canal and laser decontamination, followed by a root canal filling with gutta-percha.

What role for the microscope?
The microscope is a modern and extremely useful tool for a root canal filling, because it allows a much better visibility of the working area for the endodontist, identification of all root canals and their proper processing.
The magnification provides details about the anatomy of the tooth and helps to achieve a correct root canal filling under visual inspection, which is much more difficult to achieve with a classic root canal treatment, based more on the doctor's sense of touch than on visibility. Possible fractures, cracks in the tooth root, foreign bodies, fractured instruments on the root canal, etc. can also be identified under the microscope.
What role does the dental laser play in a root canal treatment?
- The dental laser emits a beam of light that cleans the soft and hard tissues in the oral cavity or changes their structure;
- The effects of the laser in a root canal filling have been confirmed and make a critical contribution to root canal disinfection, especially in complicated cases when the teeth have old diseases with infections, purulent secretions, etc.
- The success of a laser-assisted endodontic treatment is determined by the efficiency with which the canals are disinfected, the canal filling, the quality of the coronal restoration (by filling or dental crown) and the reactivity of the organism;
- The classic root canal treatment consists of cleaning the canals with special needles and using solutions to disinfect them. Although these solutions successfully irrigate the main canal(s), the auxiliary canals often remain untouched by both mechanical instruments and solutions. This is where laser and ozone therapy come in;
- The dental laser is inserted into the root canal and moved along its entire length using circular movements. In this way the laser beam reaches all the walls of the root canal and disinfects even the narrowest root canals;
