The child must be brought to dental office as soon as the first tooth appears and the first session should be a getting-to-know-you session before any dental treatment. It is a first session that is particularly addressed to parents and less to the child. We explain to parents how to take care of their children's teeth, what it means rigor and perseverance in daily dental brushing and how to create a daily routine in terms of dental health.

The next visits are at intervals of 3-6 months. Over time, the little patient will get used to the dental surgery, the dentist, the instruments, the equipment and the noises in the surgery. Everything is new and unpleasant for them at first sight and takes time to get used to. In addition, in the event that a problem occurs, it is immediately noticed by the dentist and can be treated in a hurry, so that the child does not go through unpleasant and painful states that will remove him from the dental environment.

The most common laser dentistry treatments for children are:

  • Laser cavity treatment
  • Treatment of complicated caries
  • Gingivectomy for 6-year-old molar
  • Dental sealing

Laser cavity treatment

Whether it is a temporary tooth or a permanent tooth, tooth decay must be treated as soon as possible. In the case of temporary teeth, it evolves quickly and most of the time, the patient comes back with a complicated cavity that requires root canal treatment.

To avoid this unpleasant and painful situation, it is necessary to treat simple cavities. With laser treatment, it is painless for the little patient. It will be explained to him that he will be given a pair of special glasses that will transport him into another world and a small light will clean the cavity without touching the tooth. Most of the time the patient is convinced by a magic story and the session is a pleasant experience for him.

The laser will only clean only the decay, without entering healthy tissue, thus preserving as much of the tooth as possible. The nerve does not suffer in the long term because the tooth does not heat up. In addition, thanks to the laser's mode of action, the risk of cavities under the filling is significantly reduced. After the cavity has been cleaned, a crown filling (filling) will be made. With laser treatment, there is a greater chance that the filling will last longer.

Due to its tooth structure, small adhesion surface and special materials for children, it is one of the most common dental treatments. But with laser treatment of the tooth surface, the chances that the filling will last longer increase.

Treatment of caries complicated by pulp disease in children

If tooth decay has not been treated in time, it rapidly progresses to nerve decay, often associated with pain. The child is already frightened and needs more empathy. As the decayed tissue is cleaned with the laser, the child feels the comfort associated with the fact that it does not hurt as it does with a drill and will accept the treatment more easily.

After laser caries cleaning, one of the most indicated dental treatments is root canal treatmentfollowed by a filling. It is necessary to leave as much of the healthy tooth as possible so that the tooth has a chance to remain healthy in the arch for as long as possible.

Gingivectomy of 6-year-old molar

Around the age of 6, the eruption of the 6-year molar begins. It will appear on the arch behind the last temporary molar, which is why parents are often unaware that another tooth has erupted. It fully erupts in a few weeks. Most of the time the eruption is uneventful, but it may fail to remove the entire gum from the occlusal surface (the surface with which chewing is done).

In this way, a pocket-like space is created between the gum and the tooth that retains food and plaque, which leads to caries on the molar surface and inflammation of the gum with pain, bleeding and the impossibility of proper hygiene. In this way you enter a vicious circle.

To remedy the situation or to avoid it, it is necessary to remove the gum by laser. It is a painless procedure that often does not require anesthesia, or if anesthesia is used, it will be a contact procedure with a special gel for children. The procedure is long-term safe and very healthy.

Sealing masses with dental laser

Molars that erupt at the ages of 6 and 12 years respectively require sealing. Sealing is the filling of the grooves on the occlusal surface (the chewing surface) with a special material. These grooves are treated with a laser because of its bactericidal effect, then the space will be filled with a material so that the sanitization can be carried out correctly. Laser treatment of the surfaces reduces the risk of caries to almost zero, so the seal will last longer on the tooth.
