Highly biocompatible dental crowns
Dental crowns
What are dental crowns with a high degree of biocompatibility?
Dental crowns are used to completely restore or replace the crown of a tooth, but also to increase its strength over time, if the tooth becomes sensitive. One reason why a tooth may need to be repaired with a dental crown is the extensive caries process which, by simple filling (filling) treatment, does not provide sufficient strength to the tooth.
Another situation that may require an indication for the dental crown is the loss of the tooth, followed by the insertion of a dental implant. A dental crown is attached to the implant (which is an artificial root) to restore the morphology and functionality of the tooth.

The old types of dental crowns, made of metal alloys, even in combination with ceramics, are unsightly and can generate sensitivities or even allergies of the patient. Heavy metals are not the first choice when we want to make a dental crown. We recommend that our patients test their sensitivity to certain dental materials before benefiting from the dental treatments they use.
It is important to be aware that dental materials are placed in our body, where they will remain for a long time, years or maybe the rest of our lives. These dental materials are not completely inert, as one might think, but they influence the body's physiology, to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the composition, quantity, etc.
To better understand this, we can give as an example "dental tattoos", which are dark areas of gum around a crown containing metal (or pivot, or other reconstruction), formed by the migration of metal ions in the tissue. Gingival. Metal ion migrations, however, can occur without clinical signs to alarm the patient, there is a risk of heavy metal deposits in certain tissues in the body. These migrations can be enhanced by the presence in the same oral cavity of works containing metal alloy together with amalgam fillings (containing mercury), which generates a galvanic cell phenomenon that pumps metal ions into the body.
At Life Dental Spa clinics, we choose to recommend safe dental materials for our patients!
Zirconia
Integral ceramics and Zirconia - the latest generation of materials for dental crowns
Zirconia is a fairly recent material that has revolutionized dental practice. It has exceptional properties related to aesthetics and strength, so it can be used successfully to make dental crowns. Zirconia is presented as a white material, in the form of blocks of various shapes and sizes, which can be computer-milled to obtain dental crowns.
In dentistry, pure zirconium is not used, but a chemically obtained combination of it, called zirconium oxide or zirconia. Thus, zirconia is considered to be one of the most resistant materials from which dental crowns can be made, except for metal.

One of the advantages of working with zirconia is that it can be computer milled, and the result is crowns with very precise adaptation to the ground tooth. We know that a crown that is not properly adapted to the polished tooth can cause inflammation of the gums, periodontal pockets, can be retentive for food debris and bacteria, can promote the appearance of caries on the tooth that is not properly covered.
Integral ceramics is another material that allows the creation of dental crowns with a high degree of aesthetics, having optical properties similar to the structures of the natural tooth. Integral ceramics can perfectly imitate the natural shade, texture and translucency of the tooth, resulting in crowns with an exceptional appearance, especially on the teeth visible in the smile, where the aesthetic requirements are extremely high.
Both in the case of zirconia and in the case of integral ceramics, the stages of making these types of crowns are the following:
- The tooth is prepared, stamped and covered with a temporary crown made in the office
- In the dental technique laboratory, the crown is made by digital design and computerized milling
- The crown will then be cemented to the prepared tooth.

It is very important how the tooth is polished, how well the fingerprint is taken, as well as the precision made in the laboratory, to obtain correct, tight prosthetic works, which do not irritate the gums and are harmoniously integrated in the occlusion (bite). Life Dental Spa clinics pay close attention to working protocols and their correctness, in order to offer patients a 5-star dental service!
