What is a dental brace?

A dental brace is a device that puts pressure on a patient's teeth to move them into the correct position in terms of alignment and relationship to other teeth. Dental braces are used in orthodontics - the specialty of dentistry that involves the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and facial malpositions.

Invisible dental braces

Invisalign braces are a modern teeth straightening technology that has been successfully used in the treatment of complex orthodontic pathologies. Invisalign is a type of invisible braces that uses a series of custom-made transparent aligners made of a comfortable and body-safe plastic material. The aligners can be removed as often as needed.

During Invisalign treatment, patients will wear several sets of aligners, each set being worn for a period of time determined by the dentist. As the patient progresses from one set to another, the aligners will gradually adjust the position of the teeth, thus effectively correcting orthodontic problems.

What is a dental brace?

1. Consultation: The orthodontist will analyze your bite and the position of your teeth to decide whether or not you need braces.

2. Diagnostic file (which includes x-rays, photos, possibly scans or study models)

3. Treatment plan: The doctor presents you
the treatment proposal and together determine the type of braces you will wear.

4. Patients undergoing treatment with fixed dental braces require regular follow-up appointments every 4–8 weeks. For clear aligner therapy, check-ups are usually scheduled every 3–4 months, based on the progression of the treatment.

5. End of treatment: The braces are removed and retainers can be applied, taking new impressions for the retainer trays.

6. Post-treatment: Wear the aligner at night and periodically go for check-ups with the orthodontist.
