What is ozone therapy?
Ozone therapy is an innovative method of treatment used in many medical fields such as orthopedics, dermatology, treatment of rheumatic diseases, vascular and neurological disorders, urology, gynecology, cosmetic treatments, and, of course, in dentistry.
This type of therapy appeared in 1896, when the famous researcher Nikola Tesla patented in the USA the first medical ozone generator "Violet ray". He organized his own company that researched and perfected the equipment for obtaining medicinal ozone, and at the beginning of the twentieth century, in the USA, almost every perfumery was equipped with such an ozone generator. Over the years, many scientists have begun to use ozone in various conditions such as: TB; AIDS; bronchial asthma; multiple sclerosis; polyarthritis etc. Thus, ozone therapy is currently used in many countries such as the USA, Canada, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico and others.
Ozone therapy is based on the properties of ozone to destroy microorganisms involved in various diseases. Ozone is a molecule made up of 3 oxygen atoms (O3), and scientific studies have shown that it is the most powerful oxidant known to date. It is found naturally in the lower layers of the atmosphere and acts as a shield that protects the planet from the sun's ultraviolet rays. Ozone therapy preparations are diverse, including ozonated water, ozonated oils, or oxygen-ozone mixtures.

In terms of dental use, here are some beneficial effects of ozone therapy:
- It has an antibacterial effect
- Destroy viruses
- Promotes healing;
- It influences the immune function having an immunomodulatory action, destroying the diseased cells and intensifying the multiplication of the healthy ones (in low concentrations, ozone has an immunostimulating action, in high concentrations - immunosuppressive);
- Does not cause allergies or intolerances and has no side effects;
- No needles, no pain and no need for anesthesia.
- Easy application, with the help of a special device for dental use
What is used in Ozone Therapy
Ozone used in therapeutic applications is not atmospheric ozone, but is produced by a medical device in the dental office called "ozone generator".

The technique respects exactly the way it is produced in the atmosphere. The next step is to administer it with a glass handle in the infected / inflamed area. Ozone can penetrate up to 5 mm into soft tissue and 1-2 mm into hard tissue.
The use of ozone therapy in dental diseases has many advantages:
1
It has a high degree of applicability;
2
It has no side effects;
3
There are no contraindications (or they are very limited);
4
Therapeutic effects are obtained quickly;
5
It is a simple and effective method of prevention, but also of treatment.
7
In addition, the results of ozone therapy are visible right after the first session, even if the application sessions are short.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
The beneficial effects of ozone therapy are undeniable, whether it is used as the main or complementary method of treatment. Ozone therapy provides a high degree of disinfection and can stop bleeding with a therapeutic effect in cleansing the treated area. It can also improve the amount of oxygen directed at a wound, speeding up the healing process. At the same time, it raises the temperature of the affected tissue by intensifying the localized metabolism, thus favoring the faster healing of the lesion.
